Im chinesischen Shanghai besitzt der Sänger Paul Curran das Irish Pub „The Blarney Stone”, in dem sich viele in China lebende Iren und Schotten treffen.
Die Kneipe genießt große Popularität und so auch der Wirt, der mit seinem Gesang für die original irische Stimmung sorgt. Er konnte bei TV-Auftritten in China und Hongkong ein großes Publikum erreichen und ist auf allen möglichen Folk-Festivals in Asien zu Gast.
Die Songs auf seiner neuen CD entsprechen den Erwartungen, die an einen irischen Wirt gestellt werden. Traditionelle Lieder wie „Botany Bay“ oder „Rocky Road to Dublin“ werden durch Kompositionen von Tommy Makem und Christy Moore ergänzt, aber auch Songs von Sting und Johnny Cash werden von Paul Curran interpretiert. Mit eher konventionellen Arrangements ist diese Platte dem altehrwürdigen Stil zuzuordnen.

In Shanghai, China, singer Paul Curran runs the Irish Pub "The Blarney Stone", a place lots of Irish and Scottish people living in China meet.
The pub enjoys great popularity and so does the host, whose voice creates the original Irish mood. By performing and TV shows both in China and Hong Kong he has gained access to a large audience and he performs at various folk festivals across Asia.
The songs on the new CD live up to the expectations one would have of an Irish pub.It contains traditional classics such as "Botany Bay" and "Rocky Road to Dublin" as well as more contemporary pieces by Tommy Makem and Christy Moore for example. Paul Curran even adapts songs by Sting and Johnny Cash. Through the conventional arrangements however the CD is still very much an example of the "good old times".
